the possum

22 Apr
the possom so close to roadkill
crossing the street tonight
but the yellow pinpoint beams of eyes
front tires screeching to a halt
the fat bristly thing to twinkle-toe across
dragging a pink rope like tail
peered up at me
triangular face with beady eyes locking mine
the gnashing yellow teeth
git dafeck out of my backyard
found myself short with this snarling creature
made me wait, jaywalking slo-mo quite on purpose
imagine that
