Saw You Again Today

I saw your smiling face today
after eight whole years of not seeing you
except in my sleep

seated on a rock by the river
feet in the water, barefoot
yellow flower in your autumn hair
near the sandy path
leading down to it

silver birch and basswood trees
flank stalwart noisy green
a new husband - the smile shows

eight years passed without a call from you
we kissed by that river

I saw your smiling face today

surfing the web
shocked, ran across an obituary
the tribute picture
