The Displacements of War

04 Mar
a family of six are hunkering down in a dank cellar
the mother and father were issued Kalashnikovs
enough for the older children to use
if necessary,

rats have already begun
sharing the food they've stored
they wait for more sounds of shelling
and distant explosions that seem to be getting nearer

the father and mother love their land
but part of them questions sickeningly
if they should've

evacuated with the others because they face
an oncoming monster with only one

outcome
