Tribute To Murphy Brown (2011-2021)

26 Oct
She adopted me from a rescue shelter
seven and a half years ago.
She was two or three at the time. Today, I said
bye to my best companion, whose life
was one continuous celebration of affectionate
gratitude. When I arrived back home without her,
I stoically collected and tossed her dog food,
her leash, and her bowls. I couldn't
bear to see the symbols of her presence.
I thought I'd finished until I discovered
a pile under the dining room table.
I'd trained her to do it there (the floor is brick)
rather than on the carpet. She was a quick study,
always wanting to please. She must've done
it last night when a walk wasn't forthcoming.
A hot mess, I cleaned her last soil.
