On the Edge of a Dream

20 Mar

on the edge of an enchanted forest
rests a do-it-yourself log cabin, a humble home
where chipmunks and squirrels romp
& trees reach up to stick twigged fingers
to the peaceful cotton turquoise sky

next door, a sprawling field sprouts
new corn nursing under an afternoon sun
the air is filled with an ambient symphony of
warbling, twittering, buzzing, barking–
children squealing wild with playfulness

sitting on the porch, taking it all in
absorbing the energy around us

Yankee pot roast and coffee
tease our noses
& we wink at each other
a dream
